Module Overview

This module will demonstrate how project finance can be used to fund investment in energy, petroleum and mining projects including infrastructure projects. This will enable students understand the issues surrounding project financing in the mentioned sectors, gain a practical understanding of the issues and key areas of concern which are revealed by careful examination and analysis of proposes energy, petroleum and mining projects. Alternatives to governments through project financing in cases where funding is not sufficient to meet demand will also be analyzed.

Objectives

  • Understand the main concepts and approaches related to project finance in energy, petroleum and mining sectors.
  • Understand the structure of project financing deals and the key financing requirements of investors and lenders.
  • Understand the risks involved in project financing and how these are allocated.
  • Understand the mechanisms through which risks can be mitigated.
